Get to know our librarian, Ms. Heyer!

By Sophia Sivakumar

Many students might have met our Librarian Ms. Heyer, but don't know much about her. I interviewed Ms. Heyer and asked her questions about her background and her job as a librarian! When I walked into the library, I didn't feel uncomfortable because Ms. Heyer has decorations like lights and posters. She also has things like bean bag chairs and an arts and crafts table. Ms. Heyer noticed I walked in and smiled. We sat down and I asked her why she decided to become a librarian. She thought for a moment and said, “I always wanted to impact multiple classes at once and becoming a librarian allowed me to do that.” Afterwards I asked what job she had before becoming a librarian. She answered, “I used to be a kindergarten teacher.” I found that interesting and asked, “Do you enjoy being a librarian?” She didn't hesitate and answered, “I love it!” I added, “How long have you been a librarian here at Lawrence?” She responded, “2 years.” I asked my final question, “What did you wanna be when you grow up?” She thought for a moment then laughed at herself. “I wanted to be a doctor,” she said, chuckling. I started to think of other staff who had similar experiences. Many of the teachers I have talked to never planned to become a teacher at first. Many of the staff also tried to be a doctor or engineer. I then stood up and said thank you for her time and began to leave. She also said thank you and I left. I recommend coming in the morning from 7:45am-8:00am and grabbing a lunch pass and hanging out with friends before 1st period. Lunch passes can be used to come to the library during lunch to play bored games and read. Ms. Heyer was so nice and I hope more people start to get to know her more!
