A ninth grader, Myka Schober, at Liberty Junior High School has generously given $400 dollars to adopt a family during this holiday season. Adopt a family is a school fundraiser to raise money for children and families who don’t have enough resources to spare around Christmas time. It turns out that Myka wasn’t just a generous giver; she too had been affected during the holiday season. Now she is paying back what people so kindly gave her.

Last December, Myka’s house had burnt down. The school, that she had previously gone to, donated money for her Christmas and she chose to give back to the people who had given so much to her.

When asked his first thoughts when he found out Myka had given so much, Mr. Kenealy, a 9B history teacher, replied, “I was in shock; I was really put in my place because she had more Christmas spirit than me!”

Mrs. Springer, the 9B Communication Arts teacher, recalls her emotions when hearing the good news. “I was in shock, pleasant shock! I was overwhelmed when she was that generous to give us that much money, especially considering this time of year. Not a lot of people have enough money to spare around the holiday season,” said Mrs. Springer.

So maybe this holiday season, we can all learn something from Myka. It might not be giving $400 dollars, but the action and thought of giving itself. So next time that you see someone in need, don’t be afraid to help them. And who knows, maybe it will start a chain reaction of generous giving.
