Liberty Junior High School recently participated in a field trip to the Liberty Memorial and the World War one Museum. Students traveled back in time to the years 1914-1919, and experienced life from the soldiers’ point of view throughout the war. The 9th grade students enjoyed the exhibits, especially the war machinery, tanks, and airplane replicas.
9th grader, Brady Worstell, commented on what his favorite part of the museum was. Brady said, “I really like the sphinxes and the meaning behind it. It makes the museum have a deeper meaning.”
On top of the museum there are two sphinxes, one facing backward and the other facing forward. The one facing backward is standing for the past, and the sphinx is shielding its eyes from the horrible and gruesome things of the past. The other, facing forward, stands for the future. It is also shielding its eyes, meaning that it is still unsure of the future and what it has to hold.
When asked her thought s on the museum and what her favorite part was, 9th grader Faith Ordonio said, “I really liked the trenches that we got to into and look around in; I thought that it was really interesting. It was one of the best field trips that I have been to.”
Inside the museum, they had replicas of the trenches that soldiers had fought in. They weren’t exactly the cleanest and most sanitary. Many deaths of soldiers related to the poor conditions of the trenches and the sickness spread by rodents carrying diseases.
On the field trip to the museum, many students learned the hardships and the amazing amounts of courage that the soldiers had fighting this war. Students and teachers alike can learn to thank these brave soldiers and their hard work and willingness to serve the country that they love.
