Open the door, shut the door, and kick off your shoes. Drop your backpack say, “hey” to your mom. Go into the kitchen, open the fridge, dramatically sigh in exasperation at your choices. You have ketchup, American cheese slices, three year old apples, and some moldy cauliflower, you walk away. You come back three minutes later only to find nothing has changed; you do this a few more times before you finally give up. No snack for you today, oh well.
Now here you are reading exactly what you did yesterday when you were scavenging for a snack, but fear no more! Here are some savory snack ideas. We talked to eighth graders, ninth graders, teachers, counselors and some high class chefs (Ok, not really) and found some easy and tasty snack ideas.
#1-Cheezits (Just about everyone said cheezits) Classic, salty and easy.
#2-Banana with peanut butter or Nutella and for a sweet snack try it with Carmel.
#3-Bowl of cereal, classic but simply delish. After all, it’s morning somewhere!
#4-Your favorite cheese on top of a Ritz cracker.
#5-Peanut butter on crackers (Ritz are still our favorite, but any cracker would do.)
#6-Pretzels and Nutella, or peanut butter if you’re a Nutella hater.
#7-Hummus and pita bread. We prefer garlic hummus, that way it tastes like breadsticks with about 1/3 the fat and calories.
#8-Left overs from last night’s dinner.
#9-Apples and cheese, surprisingly tasty. It goes great with skinny cow flavored cheese.
#10-A fruit smoothie. Senora Jacobs’s favorite recipe is 1-2 ripe bananas (add any other of your favorite fruits), 2 cups of milk, sugar to taste, and ice. Put it all in a blender blend until smooth and you’re ready to go!
#11-Popcorn, to mix it up try it with hot tamales, chocolate chips, or cinnamon and sugar.
#12- Bagels with cream cheese or Nutella
#13- Chips and salsa
#14-bagel with turkey and cheese
#15- Grilled peanut butter and honey sandwich
Whether you’re craving savory, sweet, or a delicious combination of both, we got you covered. Chow down legends!
