There are two types of teachers that students love and admire: the new teachers who let kids get away with everything, and the teachers who you can relate to and have a great time being around. Unfortunately, your favorite teachers will not be with you forever and you will have to adjust to new ones. Whenever a teacher leaves, a position must be filled and that’s when the new teachers come in. But why do teachers leave and where do the new teachers come from? You’re about to find out.
Here are our new teachers for the 2011-2012 school year: Ms. Biermann, Ms. Danze, Mr. Goodwin, Ms. Groebe, Ms. Angela, Mr. Lowe, Mr. Madsen, Ms. Mimbs, Coach Price, Ms. Schnegelberger, Ms. Wilkins, Ms. Wolf, and Ms. Zuber.
Ms. Presser, one of the best counselors ever was a Spanish teacher at LJHS from 2001-2003, later she came back to the school to be a counselor from 2008-2010. She is currently the counselor at Liberty North High school. When asked about why she left, Ms. Presser responded, “I wanted to be up at the high school level when the freshman class joins the high school.” The school misses Ms. Presser so much and she misses us too. She says, “I miss everyone in the main office. We had a great team. I miss the amazing teachers! I also miss my great class of 9th graders, especially my Student Ambassadors. Hope to see some of you soon at North.”
When Ms. Presser left we got a great new addition to our school, her name is Ms. Gannon. We are excited to have her for her first year as a counselor! When asked about her past experiences, she tells us, “I did my internship last year as a counselor at Liberty High School, Liberty Academy and South Valley Middle School. I was also a teacher at the Gillis School, an alternative boy’s school in Kansas City.”
Another addition we got to our school this year was Ms. Danze, the daughter of Mrs. Danze, the middle school gym teacher. We asked Ms. Danze what she likes about LJHS and she replied, “The atmosphere, the students, my boss, and my coworkers are great! We have a great environment but it is still successful,”.
The counselors at the school weren’t the only staff members that changed this year, Mr. Nixon, a dedicated teacher of 32 years has unfortunately retired. We talked to Mrs. Nixon about the changes. When asked about how different it is now, she tells us, “I really didn’t see him that much during the school day since we were on opposite sides of the building and he drove separate due to coaching but it was nice that we could understand each other’s work. It will be odd in a few years if he doesn’t know LJHS students.”
Whether it’s for the better or worse, teachers will come and go. We will miss them and they will miss us but everything happens for a reason so give your new teachers a chance, they may have some great things to offer!
