Get Yo’ Break On!

Ever since Christmas break ended most students have already began the countdown till spring break. However not everyone spends their spring break the same. Some people go on big vacations or travel somewhere far away, others choose to stay at home. For those of you who are undecided on what you’re going to do for spring break here are some ideas.

One great way to spend spring break would be to go on a trip. It’s a good way to get away from the stressful life at home and take a break for a bit.

Tori Fowler and her family are going to Mexico over this year’s spring break. When asked what her favorite part was about traveling for spring break she answered “getting away from Liberty for a while.”

Another option would be to go visit your grandparents. It’s always a good thing to spend time with family and reconnect with family members you might not have seen in a while.

Chris Marnell said that he would be spending his spring break visiting his grandparents. He said he loved to visit them because, ” I don’t get to see them very often and it’s good I catch up with them.”

For those of you who will not be going anywhere over spring break, there are plenty of fun things you can do at home. For example, you could go to the movie theater and see a movie you’ve been wanting to see, call up a friend and hang out or just spend time with your family.

Morgan dryer will be spending this year’s spring break at home. When asked what she loved most about being home for spring break she answered, “I get to play volleyball.”

I hope you found this information helpful. And that you all have a wonderful 2012 spring break!  This year’s spring break is March 19-23.  Enjoy!

We meet again. For all of those who wanted a Harbaugh Bowl, we all apologize for the disappointment. A missed field goal for Baltimore, and San Francisco with an overtime loss on Sunday. At least Tom Brady will get another chance at Eli come Super bowl 43. It was different back in 2008 though. Eli, the clutch choker trying to find his first ring, and Tom Brady, being Mr. Unstoppable with a perfect 16-0 record. Brady was on his way to making history, and trying to make more in the Super Bowl.

This time, each team has suffered from that Super Bowl game. None have made it to the big stage since then. This year, the Giants clinching a playoff berth in their win against the Cowboys Week 17, and the Patriots dominated with a 13-3 record. Tom Brady is having his second try at his fourth Super Bowl ring.

The New York Giants have hit their stride, two dominating wins over the Falcons and the Packers. As they got to San Fran, it was an overtime win, with the 49ers fumbling the opening kickoff in OT. Then Lawrence Tynes hit the game winning field goal, sending them to their second Super Bowl in four years. They have fired on all cylinders, their defense facing huge challenges, and Eli leading his team through an uphill battle. This will be his toughest test yet, and it will be hard to beat a team twice, in a season and in a recent Super Bowl.

And now for the Patriots. They have done great all season, finishing with a 13-3 record and home field advantage. One of their three loses were against the Giants though, with Ballard scoring for the Giants with less than 90 to clinch the victory, 24-20. A very scary offense, with many weapons including two stud tight ends, Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski, are the best duel threat tight ends in NFL history. They are huge, fast for their size, and have above average hands. Tom Brady did struggle against the Ravens though, throwing two INT’s and a quarterback rating of 57.5. Their defense did make a stand against the Ravens, playing pretty well.

So what is the pick? Not one team has a huge advantage in this one. Will it be the strengths that win the game or will the weaknesses lose it? It won’t be either, but a collective game will win the game, not one aspect of it. So what is it going to be? Patriots or Giants? Tom wins his fourth, 34-24. The defense will understand the importance of themselves in this game, and will stop Eli enough to earn the victory. Whether this happens or not, one thing is guaranteed, Super Bowl 43 will be one to remember.

Justin Bieber may not be considered a man in many eyes, besides his millions of young fans, but he is a true leader in the music industry, proving anyone can make it big no matter what their age is. No one knew the whole story till his movie, Never Say Never, came out and exposed all the work he had gone through to be where he is. After, unsuccessful attempts at winning music contests and getting people to notice him, someone over 1,500km away, finally saw him on a social networking site where the media really shapes people: YouTube.com. The media shapes people in negative and positive ways and Justin Bieber has been a victim of both. It seemed as though every boy was copying his hair cut and every girl had his T-shirts and dolls but as his fame grew, so did the media’s hate.

Magazines, blogs, and talk shows everywhere hated on Justin and gave no mercy. An account on Twitter said, “Justin Bieber is not a good singer, he’s ugly and he should not be in the music industry, he just does it for the fame!” people went crazy over this. Other Tweeters agreed and said that they wanted him to die while a few strong fans stood up for him and even some Music industry icons backed him up. Another tweeter that same day said, “I don’t care what anyone says about Justin. #yourrealfansloveyou”. The argument continued and never fully came to a rest. The media reacts to things like this and takes advantage of societies negative feelings for Justin and pushes them even further. MailOnline.com published an article revealing the details on the buzz everyone is talking about: Justin’s paternity test. Mariah Yeater, a twenty-year-old Justin Bieber fan claims the seventeen-year-old popstar is the father of her child. Justin’s lawyer quickly got in touch with Yeater’s eternity to get the situation annulled.

The media can throw its hits and punches at any celebrity but one can only dodge them for so long. Justin Bieber has handled it all exceptionally well for starting out in the business so young. He’s truly proved himself to be the man that his fans across the world expect him to be and blown everyone away. He has never broken down in public or interacted with a hating Tweeter or magazine. Justin Bieber has stayed strong and posed with his chin held high.

As you may know, The Liberty Hill’s Country Club has recently burnt down. Firefighters had receved the call just before 6 p.m. and faced two major obstacles in putting out the fire. Strong winds spread the fire quickly, and the one fire hydrant nearby was not working, forcing tanker trucks to cartwater from elsewhere. Fire officials said the fire started in the basement.  No one had quite known the reasoning of the fire, or the cause until recently.  On Jan. 11, 2012 The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Kansas City Field Division and the Missouri Division of Fire Safety’s Office of the State Fire Marshal have completed the on-scene investigation into the cause of a fire at the Liberty Hills Country Club.  The fire occurred at 19808 County Road H on Jan. 6 at 5:43 p.m.

After three days of extensive scene examination and many interviews, investigators determined the fire came from inside  the basement of the clubhouse in an area south of the Bass Pro Shop. Due to the extreme damage, it was hard for investigators to figure out the exact reasoning for the fire.  The official cause of the fire, at this time, will be “undetermined.”  A finding of undetermined does not mean that a fire investigation is closed.  If information is developed in the future to indicate or warrant further investigation, this finding can be changed. The fire caused approximately $3.5 million in damage.

So even after a horrific fire, loss of many jobs, and the unforgettable memories made, The Liberty Hills Country Club plans to rebuild and start over. And many new memories can be made in the new building.

In the Tuscan Sea, near Italy, a cruise ship recently crashed on January 13th, 2012. The big news, though, is that 23 passengers are still missing. We don’t know what kind of condition we’ll find them in, but they all have many friends and family anxiously waiting to find out more information. Divers soon after the crash started looking for these missing persons for a few weeks until it got to a point when the ship was no long accessible and too dangerous to continue.

Passengers were offered 30% off their next cruise, a little compensation for a big crash. They were also offered over $14,000 each and hospital bills would be covered, but the U.S citizens continued to sue the captain anyways.  He is being greatly questioned because of his actions; he left the passengers immediately and saved himself. He did this while knowing that his passengers never underwent the practice of what to do if the cruise liner crashed. So in the swarm of scared people, he ran to a life boat and paddled to shore. Currently, he’s on trial for whether he should be sued, because many families are upset he didn’t take responsibility and put his passengers first.

The Costa Concordia’s company headquarters is in Genoa, Italy. They crashed into the Tuscan coast near Italy. On the back of the tickets in fine print states the regulations and agreements, but they’re arguing whether or not that’s fair. And they’re debating whether the fact that the crash took place in Italy matters. And with 16 deaths due to the Costa Concordia crash with at least 23 passengers still missing, it’s being taken very seriously; this trial is going to decide what kind of compensation the passengers on the boat will receive.

Passengers boarded the ship on January 13th, 2012 and the crash occurred 2 and a half hours later. The crash affected many people on board, and continues to affect some families of missing people, and those that died. Hopefully they can help everyone back to full recovery!
